One of the most powerful tools for cellular repair, recovery and resilience available in our clinical practice in Sandyford, Dublin 18.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) involves breathing high-concentration oxygen inside a pressurised chamber.
At increased atmospheric pressure, oxygen dissolves directly into the blood plasma at significantly higher concentrations than normal breathing allows. This oxygen-rich environment reaches tissues and cells throughout the body, including areas with reduced circulation, and supports a wide range of biological repair and recovery processes.
At Luma, HBOT is integrated into our programmes as both a standalone therapy and as part of broader treatment protocols for painm, sports recovery, inflammation, fertility and general health.
Under normal conditions, oxygen is carried almost entirely by red blood cells. At increased pressure, oxygen also dissolves directly into blood plasma, cerebrospinal fluid, lymphatic fluid and interstitial fluid. This significantly increases the oxygen available to every tissue in the body, including areas that may be poorly perfused or under inflammatory stress.
The body responds to this environment in several ways:

Enhanced tissue oxygenation
By dissolving oxygen directly into blood plasma, HBOT delivers oxygen to tissues that red blood cells alone may not reach effectively. This is particularly significant for areas of chronic inflammation or compromised circulation, where healing has been limited by inadequate oxygen supply.
Angiogenesis and circulation repair
HBOT stimulates the formation of new blood vessels in areas of reduced circulation. Over a programme of sessions, this supports lasting improvements in blood flow, not just temporary increases during the session itself.
Stem cell mobilisation
Research shows HBOT significantly increases stem cell mobilisation from bone marrow. These stem cells contribute to tissue repair, immune regulation and regeneration, making HBOT a meaningful addition to recovery and longevity programmes.
Anti-inflammatory action
HBOT modulates inflammatory signalling throughout the body. For conditions maintained by chronic inflammation, a structured programme of HBOT sessions supports a meaningful reduction in the overall inflammatory burden.
Combination with other therapies
Within Luma's multi-therapy programmes, HBOT is used alongside approaches including red light therapy, PEMF and nutritional support. The oxygen-rich environment created by HBOT enhances the effectiveness of other cellular therapies delivered in the same programme, particularly those targeting mitochondrial function and tissue repair.
Recovery
Post-surgical recovery, sports injuries and soft tissue damage, where increased oxygen delivery supports more complete and efficient healing.
Chronic conditions
Conditions involving persistent inflammation, compromised circulation or slow tissue repair, where systemic oxygenation helps create a more favourable biological environment.
Fertility support
As part of our fertility programmes, HBOT supports the reduction of oxidative stress in reproductive tissue and improves the pelvic oxygen environment ahead of conception or assisted reproductive treatment.
Endometriosis
For clients managing endometriosis, HBOT is used within our programme to support tissue health following surgery and to reduce the oxidative stress associated with chronic pelvic inflammation.
General health and longevity
For people focused on long-term cellular health and resilience, regular HBOT sits within our wellness programmes as a tool for maintaining the oxygenation and regenerative capacity that healthy ageing depends on.
Neurological recovery and cognitive support
For people managing cognitive fatigue, post-viral conditions or neurological recovery, HBOT supports cerebral oxygenation and the reduction of neuroinflammation.

HBOT sessions at Luma take place in a comfortable, pressurised chamber. Sessions typically last between 60 and 90 minutes, during which you breathe high-concentration oxygen through a mask or hood.
Most people find sessions relaxing. You may notice a mild sensation of pressure in your ears during pressurisation, similar to descending in an aircraft, which resolves quickly.
A standard programme of HBOT at Luma is typically structured over a defined course of sessions, with the frequency and duration tailored to your specific goals and condition. Our clinical team monitors your response throughout and adjusts the programme accordingly.
Benefits build progressively over a course of sessions rather than from a single treatment. Most people notice meaningful changes in energy, recovery and how they feel within the first few weeks of a structured programme.
